After its release, Apex Legends got huge attention from the battle royale community. The game reached such a high number of players in short while, reaching over 50 million players globally in only 4 weeks. There was good marketing behind Apex Legends and everyone was aware of this. Drew McCoy, the project lead of Apex Legends stated in an interview how they wanted to make a day where people couldn’t escape Apex Legends. Although this has worked at first and both Respawn and EA was satisfied with it. It’s been more than two and a half months since the game release and the number of people giving attention to Apex Legends is going down drastically. I guess the hype around Apex Legends has come to an end.
It’s easy to understand that when we look at the Twitch figures of Apex Legends. A game where it has reached more than 300.000 viewers at a time but its nowhere near that number. The huge popularity of Apex Legends is coming to an end closely. The number of Apex Legends players have risen up after the first season and battle pass was out on March 19th but it didn’t last too long. It’s still unsure if its only Apex Legends or battle royale in general. We saw a similar drop in the number of players playing PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. Even though both games are losing their hype, Fortnite Battle Royale doesn’t seem to be affected by even a little bit at all.
Currently, Fortnite is at the top when it comes to battle royales and it doesn’t seem to be going down much but without any competition between games, Epic may have a hard time to keep its player base happy and committed to the game. Although Apex has lost a lot of attention, it’s nowhere near to dying out. The game still rocks with satisfied players and probably will stay this way for a while.
